    Dear Bob,

    This is Marilyn Wilson in Chewelah, Wa., I was a guest on your show a few years back along with Dr. Friedlander, I spoke about the importance of the SAFE Act, Safeguard American Foods Export Act, which will safeguard our foods against adulterated horsemeat, and ban the export of horses across the borders and shores for human consumption, also the SAFE Act would prevent the possible return of horse slaughter within the US. The SAFE Act unfortunately now resides in the AG committee where it will die if we can’t get the word out to people to please call their congress people and support this bill.

    We were encouraged by the discovery of horse DNA in meat products in the US. This summer two researchers at Chapman University’s Food Science Program detected the presence of horse DNA in America’s food supply chain. In two separate studies on meat mislabeling both DNA-based studies discovered products that were labeled as one species but contained other species. 48 meat samples were tested 10 were mislabeled. Of those 10, nine were found to contain additional species. Horsemeat, illegal in the US was found in two of the samples.
    Researcher Dr. Rosealee Hellberg stated that there has been limited research done in the US in light of the EU’s horsemeat scandal of 2012. To the researchers knowledge, the most recent US meat survey was published in 1995.
    Please help get the word out, many news media’s refuse to take it on.
